MASS CONFUSION People have often commented on the way the lines for communion flow here at Saint Edith Stein during our Sunday Celebrations. Many solutions have come forward. For example it has been suggested that we add communion stations at the halfway point now that we are not receiving the cup. But the precious blood will be offered again in the not too distant future so to change the lines for a few months would provide only a temporary solution. In addition, new concerns may arise with ministers at the halfway point. After discussions with the staff and several parishioners we are implementing the following guidelines for the reception of Communion. 1. The front half of the church will receive Communion before the back half. 2. The two center sections in the front will come down the center aisle, receive Communion and return to their seats by the side aisles. Those in the side benches will remain seated and will refrain from cutting through the pews of the center. 3. As the last few rows of the front center receive communion, the side sections will begin to process by the side aisles to the break point and come down the center aisle to receive. They too will return to their seats by the side aisles. 4. As the length of the Communion line lessens the back center sections will come down the center aisle and return to their seats by the side aisle. 5. As the Communion line grows shorter, the back side sections will proceed to the rear of the church, via the side aisle. They will then receive Communion and return to their seats by the side aisles. NOTE: IT WILL HELP IMMENSELY IF WE THINK OF THE AISLES AS ONE WAY STREETS WITH THE CENTER AISLE LEADING TO THE ALTAR AND THE SIDE AISLES LEADING TO THE BACK. A solution to the traffic problem will only work if we all follow the same directions and be patient with one another. Do not be in a hurry to receive Jesus. Take this time to sing, to pray, to fully prepare to receive our Lord. He will always be there waiting for you whether you are first in line or bringing up the rear. |
